Ecclesiology Re-Imagined

We are pleased to announce that the 2024 Summer Theology School will be held on June 19th and 20th in Stafford at Rising Brook Community Church

Ecclesiology Re-Imagined

Why do our churches operate and organise themselves as they do? This discussion of what the church is called to be – including its purpose, structures and practices – is called ecclesiology.

In recent times our ecclesiology has come under the microscope like never before. At the 2024 Fresh Streams Theology School, some of our best theologians and practitioners will lead us to take a detailed look: What does the Bible say and history teach us? Should our structures be completely de-institutionalised and flexible? What is the Spirit saying? What about the future? Is there a Baptist way of being church that is sacrosanct to us?

Do you wish you had more time to reflect on this key issues of our day? Do you share a passion to do theology well at the coal face of ministry and mission? Would you love to spend two days engaging with eminent theologians who will stretch your thinking, with plenty of time for discussions, informal conversations, all in the context of good food and great hospitality?

Whether you’re a church leader, part of a leadership team, a student, or just interested in theology, you’ll love Fresh Streams Theology School 2024

Our confirmed contributors are Steve Holmes, Lucy Peppiatt, Ashley Hardingham, Simon Hall, Roy Searle, Ruth Moriarty and Craig Millward, come and have a voice in this critical conversation.

Bookings will go live at the beginning of February

Steve Holmes

Steve Holmes

Steve Holmes is a Baptist minister presently employed to teach theology at the University of St Andrews. Steve is Author/editor of eighteen books and Author of over 100 academic articles.

Ashley Hardingham

Ashley Hardingham

Prior to his training for Baptist ministry Ashley worked as a Eurobond dealer in the City of London. Now in his thirtieth year of ministry, Ashley has served in churches on a Bradford council estate, a church plant in North Leeds and now an established church in suburban south Manchester. Ashley is an associate tutor at Northern Baptist College and is an adviser to the principal of Nazarene Theological College.

Simon Hall

Simon Hall

Roy Searle and Simon Hall are Baptist Ministers from the North, living in Northumberland and Yorkshire respectively. After ministries in which they pioneered and planted churches both traditional and experimental, an arts centre (Simon) Portrack and the Northumbria Community (Roy), they now work together as part of The Northumbrian Collective, which seeks to help individuals and organisations listen well, think deeply and live authentically, through teaching, blogs and podcasts. Simon lives in Leeds with Anna, a TV producer, and they have three grown up children. In 1993, Simon co-founded Revive, what we would these days call a fresh expression of church. Revive is now a loose network of house churches and charities. Until recently he was a Minister at Chapel A, a church also planted in the 1990s. Simon is a practical theologian with a particular interest in the interface between discipleship, psychology and neuroscience. He has also taught and written extensively about youth ministry, worship and ecclesiology.

Roy Searle

Roy Searle

Roy Searle and Simon Hall are Baptist Ministers from the North, living in Northumberland and Yorkshire respectively. After ministries in which they pioneered and planted churches both traditional and experimental, an arts centre (Simon) Portrack and the Northumbria Community (Roy), they now work together as part of The Northumbrian Collective, which seeks to help individuals and organisations listen well, think deeply and live authentically, through teaching, blogs and podcasts. Roy, a Companion of the Northumbria Community is a former President of The Baptist Union, is one of the movement’s Pioneer Ambassadors and as a leadership mentor, advisor and writer works with The Commons Network. Roy and his wife Shirley have four children and eight grandchildren. When he’s not working, Roy loves to spend time with his family and friends, walking and playing sport, notably tennis, curling and when opportunity arises, sailing. He is a committed Middlesbrough football supporter.

Ruth Moriarty

Ruth Moriarty

Ruth Moriarty has been a Baptist minister for 17 years with ministries at Woolwich (South London), Poynton (Cheshire) and now at Christ Church New Southgate & Friern Barnet, London (URC/Baptist). She holds a practical theology doctorate (University of Chester) with a research interest in Baptist discernment practice and the church meeting. She is an avid book group member and keen cook.

Craig Millward

Craig Millward

Most of Craig's church leadership experience was gained over nearly 20 years in a single church in Norfolk. The first three years were spent trying to do it the way he’d been taught in college. That was followed by ten more innovative years trying to reinterpret Baptist ecclesiology for the real world which eventually became the subject of his PhD research. The final five years were influenced by sabbatical research into Jesus as a discipler. He has experience of teaching and lecturing in a variety of contexts, is an author and blogger, and has worked with students, church leaders and church leadership teams. He currently works with Roy & Simon as part of the Northumbrian Collective.
